There’s no place quite like Miami! There’s so much energy, but not like New York or LA at all. This vibe is steamy, tropical, sunny, and fun. People are ditching their cold-weather clothes and heading down toward the southern tip of the southernmost state for the diversity, culture, food, and lifestyle that makes Miami unique.
As a real estate agent, I know there are certain things all people relocating want to know. Let’s get into some of them now! But first, don’t miss to watch the video above about living in Miami, so click on it.
If you’re already living in New York, LA, Chicago, D.C, or any other major US city, you’re going to find the move to Miami much more affordable!
Of course, if you’re currently living somewhere that’s already inexpensive, like other cities in Florida or somewhere else in the south or Midwest, Miami can be pricey. But, like they always say, you do get what you pay for!
While you won’t find gas, food, or utilities, in general, more expensive here, real estate, transportation, and enjoying activities might eat away at your monthly budget a bit more than in other cities in Florida. A major reason people move to Florida is because of our low taxes. With no state income tax and low sales tax, residents here enjoy more money in their pockets every month, which definitely helps out when you’re ready to get out and enjoy life!
It also makes Miami a great place to start a business, and with more industry moving in all the time, this city is ready for more entrepreneurs!
Why? Well, public roads are CONGESTED, and traffic can be intense. So, anyone who can afford to take toll roads. While they get you where you need to be faster, they also cost more to commute. You can get discounts by buying an EPass, but you’ll need to consider where you want to put down your roots and how far that home may be from your work life!
Property costs are higher here too than other places in the state, but again, when comparing our city to others around the country, you’re still saving money living in Miami! The real estate market in Florida has been ON FIRE for the last couple of years, and according to current market trends, we are holding strong. As of March of 2022, the median listing price for a single-family home in Miami Dade was $535,000 a 19.1% jump from last year at the same time, but there are still deals out there to be made. I love negotiating the best possible prices for my clients, so be sure to reach out to me if you’re looking to buy or sell here in the Miami area!
When you think about Miami, you probably think of heat, humidity, hurricanes, and lots of sunshine; You wouldn’t be wrong! But there is so much more to our weather and climate in South Florida.
Many people who live in snowy climates don’t head out much in the winter months. The same can be said about Florida summers. There will be days when you don’t want to head outside because the sun is intense, especially from July – to September. BUT – people FLOCK here from all over the world to enjoy our absolutely gorgeous weather from October – to May. With tons of sunny, breezy days in the ’70s and 80s, the tourist season is picture-perfect for those of you who enjoy lots of time outside.
When buying a home in Miami, you’ll want to make sure to steer clear of any flood zones as much as possible, as some heavy rainstorms can flood streets quickly. It’s a good thing you have a real estate agent to call to help you find that right spot!
Lows in the winter are typically in the 60s, so while you may need to break out a coat once or twice a year, you won’t be bundling up for long. You might just become a real Florida resident and break out the boots and scarves when the temp drops to 70 degrees! Most people adapt to the warmer weather pretty easily, mostly because everywhere you go also has air conditioning.
There is a certain feel to Miami that you don’t get in other places in Florida. We are a highly diverse population with tons of Latin and Caribbean influences. Even though more business is coming to this area, we are a hospitality mecca with so much of our pace of life directed by hospitality and fun for tourists and residents alike. Nobody would ever call Miami “stuffy” or “serious”. We are lighthearted and fun-filled, with a slower pace than some of the other cities in the country.
You’ll see all the multi-cultural influences here throughout the year during our festivals, parades, and all the exciting events that happen. Some of the most popular events held here are The Calle Ocho Festival, Carnival Miami, and the Miami International Film Festival. There are also tons of fun street events in areas like Little Havana and Little Haiti.
Art is a big deal here, and you can find beautiful street art around almost any corner, especially in the Wynwood district. Whether you’re visiting Design Miami or Art Basel in Miami Beach, you can throw yourself into the colorful and creative world of design, art, and architecture.
We also take advantage of the beautiful weather and get outside to exercise a lot! You’ll always find people running, biking, walking their dogs – this city is really dog-friendly, or soaking in vitamin D. Health and wellness are important to the beautiful people of Miami and according to experts, Miami is one of the top healthiest cities in the whole country!
